Denken wir uns ein Möbiusband, das aus einem halbdurchlässigen Spiegel besteht: Man sieht sowohl hindurch als auch das Spiegelbild. Wenn wir uns vor die spiegelnde Seite stellten und einen elastischen Arm hätten, so könnte es ja gefallen, folgende spielerische Untersuchung durchzuführen: nämlich diesen Arm einmal entlang dem Möbiusband zurück zum Kopf zu führen. Nun juckte der Kopf. Aber wie wir uns da auch mit dem langen elastischen Arm am Kopf kratzen würden, nichts wäre zu fühlen. Denn der Arm kratzt in diesem Arrangement das Bild des Kopfes und der Bild-Arm kratzt den Kopf.
















Imagine a Moebius strip consisting of a semi-permeable mirror: you can look through it and you can see the reflection. If we positioned ourselves in front of the reflecting side and had an elastic arm we could like to conduct the following playful examination: to move this arm along the Moebius strip back to the head. The head would now itch. But not matter how we would scratch our head with the long elastic arm, nothing would be felt. In this arrangement the arm would only scratch the image of the head and the image-arm would scratch the head.
